Michael Devore

Michael currently serves as the Vice President of Risk Management within the Commercial Lines Department at Shafer Insurance Agency, where he specializes in the development and oversight of comprehensive insurance and risk management programs.

Michael is a Tennessee licensed attorney with a background in insurance defense litigation. He holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Dayton School of Law, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, and the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. He is also an OSHA-Authorized Trainer in both General Industry and Construction, an instructor for Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events, and a graduate of the FBI Instructor Development course.

Before enrolling in law school, Michael served as a law enforcement officer in East Tennessee for ten years in a variety of roles including SWAT Operations, Gang Intelligence, Patrol, and Training. After passing the TN bar exam, Michael entered private law practice with a regional insurance defense litigation firm in Knoxville and Nashville.

Michael left private law practice in 2018 to move into the commercial insurance broker space, where he has worked with commercial clients of all sizes across a broad spectrum of industries. He and his wife enjoy spending time with their two children and their chocolate labrador, “Patsy Cline.”
